Howard Gallery
New York, NY
An Upper East Side penthouse was converted to a modern art gallery by preserving existing structural divisions in order to create a sequence of exhibition spaces of various dimensions and lighting strategies. Smaller entry galleries culminate into a naturally lit main gallery, while the new skylight opens to provide natural ventilation and access to the roof above. To maximize the exhibition space, large panels that conceal offices and a conference space slide open to extend the main gallery.
